I Will Always Protect You

This is Wilbur. He's a hedgehog, and he's 2 and a half years old. I've had him since he was six weeks old, and I love him. Silly little animal doesn't know any better... because I think he loves me, too.

I have six pets. There are many reasons for this, I suppose. ...You could cite a love of animals, which is certainly true, or accidental acquisition, which also has a kernel of honesty for a few of my brood. A case could even be made for a need to have something to keep me at home- a veritable menagerie of "don't you dare give in to your desire to jump in your car and drive away, ala Thelma & Louise style, sans cliff"- 'cause there are critters waiting at home for you.

But sometimes... I think the reason I have the zoo I do... is because when I have a rough day, I can turn to them- and know that there are things that depend on me. It turns burgeoning self pity into the need to protect and to shelter.

The makeup is just something personal. My eyes are always the focus of my images, it seems- and this time I knew they weren't going to be looking at the camera. That's what the blue is about.
