Salutation Series: Shoujome by sweetgreychaos Salutation Series: Shoujome by sweetgreychaos
Shoujome: (n) *[kook-ing sprey] Common name of a female waif, see: irreverent, retro living mannequin, amateur voyeur-encourager, articulate fangirl, also: born in wrong decade.

***

Since returning from China ('twar AWESOME, by the by...) I've been sucked in by the vacuum that is work. Yes, friends and fidgets, it's taken me this long to free myself from the various hose attachments and crawl back into normal life.

This is the first image in a new Salutation Series, an idea I've had for a long time but needed a kick start on. See, I am an incredibly lucky DA'er in that I have a number of amazing watchers, supporters, and even friendly folks that I watch and admire. My first victim is Shoujome: [link] :iconshoujome:

I don't remember who stumbled on whose page first, Shou or myself... but I know that her bizarre and wonderful mind makes me cackle with glee, and her makeup work is infused with her own blend of CATS-enthusiasm and crazy ephemera. Le grandness. Anywho- I have modified (but certainly NOT improved upon) a wonderful deviation of hers that I have linked above. I have also edited the lighting to look a little more like her style- at least, certainly harking back to one of those decades of old that she so obviously belongs to, and somehow got lost here in ours.

You ... need to stop being so Gorgeous.

Well, not really, but it does make me upset to then remember that I'm not gonna be in Florida when you're there.

I really like what you did with this one. It's interesting, because, in the picture you based it off of, the Gold seems to've made her eyes have almost a greenish-gold color. And, with yours, the different shades of Blue are wonderfully perfect for your eyes -- you always do an awesome job of making yours eyes stand out; giving them the attention they deserve.

And ... oh God ... that expression.... It's wonderful. At first glance, it seems like an upset, or even devastated expression. Like, maybe you just watched a friend lose at some contest that he really wanted to win; like you were sharing in his pain.

But, as I look at it more, there's actually this REALLY subtle hint of happiness in there. It seems more like the expression one would have right as they saw some incredibly kind gesture someone made for them. It seems like that look you'd have right before tears of joy come rolling down your cheeks.

I just can't help but be crazily pleased with that expression. I absolutely love this one. You really did an amazing job on it, not only as an individual piece, but it is also a wonderfully perfect tribute to the original Artist.

:glomp: There are two reasons it takes me so long to respond to your awesome comments:

1. They are quite good and long, and I usually do my "internet sessions" in quick-spurt marathon sessions.

2. They are so awesome I don't like them leaving my comment bay. Essentially... I have been holding your comments hostage. *GNAW*

I don't have my tickets for Florida yet, but I still think you'll be down there later than I'd be able to get around, since I have work starting up again at the end of August. I'll be around for her wedding late October, though.

I'm really glad you like this one- it was an inspired-by piece that I've wanted to do for a while. Though frankly, I'm surprised by how much you love the expression! I chose this image because it seemed to picture the makeup the best, but in a way, I thought it looked a little like a doll-stare. :XD: So it's nice to know that you can see so many subtleties in it that I honestly didn't intend. Sometimes it's so flattering that you DO pick up on all of the subtleties that I've worked into a piece... and sometimes I'm just amazed that something looks like I put more thought into it than I did. :XD: Happy accidents...

I ... am actually guilty of BOTH your reason as well. It also tend so happen with your Artz, too.... Like, right now, the only two Artz I has in my messages, are your last two. X___X

I've wanted to comment; there are quite a few things I want to say ... but, I've just been either ... not here, or not in a mood to type out my thoughts. And, well, if I'm gonna send you a message, I would feel terrible if I wasn't in the right frame of thought to do so, because you wouldn't get the kind of message you deserve. :C

Wait, so ... you'll be in Florida in October...? That could work; I will definitely be in Florida by then. When will you get there? How long will you be there? ... If you're there on the 16th, you'll actually get to say happy birthday to me in person. 8D

I do plan on driving across the country, though. I plan to stop by St. Louis, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Georgia, and then down to Florida.... If you'd have some time to spare, and feel like getting some dinner one evening, I would definitely make a detour up to Maine, either before, or after spending some time in Pennsylvania. I mean, I'll already be traveling 4,000-some miles. So, what's another 500, if it means I can finally give you those hugs I've owed you for quite some time? XP

I'll be in Florida a few days before Halloween, and leave probably the first of November.

I don't know why I haven't heard from you lately- I hope you're alright... but I'd definitely love to see if you if you stopped in this way. (And, btw, my family is in Maine- I'm in CT.)

Oh my goodness! I went to check my messages, and this was the first thing I saw on my watch list. I love you. <3 (And the little blurb you wrote at the top; I laughed so hard I think I may quote you and adopt it into my repetoire.)

The strange thing is, I was just sifting through old photos last week and thought about re-doing this design myself, since I felt it needed an update. That, and it's always fun to see progress!

You've adapted it beautifully, though. I love the blue color theme you decided to go with, and somehow, you even manage to look a little like me (although that could be because I'm used to seing the design on my own facial structure).

Here, have a long line of emotihearts! <33333333333333

:glomp: Awww, thanks! I'm so glad you like it and aren't hideously appalled at my nerve, or something. :XD: I've thought since the first time I saw that image that I had to do something to celebrate it. I mean, it was like... your first DA foray into non-CATS crazy makeup. ...Now, I know you are a legitimate artist and budding photog- but hey, I have to do SOMETHING to suck you into makeupping. We are a dying (or at least, few-being-born) breed, mah friend.

Apalled at your nerve? Seriously, as an artist, no one's ever given me a tribute before, so the correct adverb would've been "flattered". =P

I need to do some more non-CATS stuff, but since I'm so involved with the fandom and the costuming board, it's inevitable that 90% of what gets painted on my face ends up being feline in nature. I have a project I really want to try, though. I just need to find a good day to decide to devote to it, and also. . . pasties. That are not cheaply fashioned from band-aids. XD

o_O Do I sense some full body paint? ... I don't even think I'd try that until I had some airbrush capabilities. :XD:
